History and Objective

In 1983 NEIGHBORHOOD NANNIES first opened their doors to the changing social trends among career professionals. They were becoming openly dissatisfied with the lack of choices that existed for couples who had both children and demanding careers. These families were very aware that the first few years of life are critical for development and learning, and they were unwilling to compromise their child's care. The pressures of accommodating work hours to meet day care center times, and the tremendous drain of energy experienced when trying to meet the demands of the work place and home were just a few of the problems that became familiar to many professional families.

NEIGHBORHOOD NANNIES' directors realized that this demand for individualized, skilled child care had generated new job possibilities and they responded by developing a program that places a Professional Nanny in their home to provide their children with the individual physical, social, and emotional care that is essential for a child to thrive.

Our objective is to provide families with nannies who have developed the skills, ability, and self-reliance that are necessary for the health and well being of the children in their care. This is is accord with the overall philosophy of NEIGHBORHOOD NANNIES and the INTERNATIONAL NANNY ASSOCIATION, which is to help improve the quality of child care services, and to help alleviate the stress experienced by families due to the lack of skilled people to care for their children in their absence.
